Sony Music/Caravan - 2003

Eccolo lo stronzo!-Il fuoco e la danza-Le vespe-Diggeridoo-Ma che vuoi da me?-Venti gradi sotto zero-Al di là del confine-Stivali e tequila-Supergatto-Pastore di nuvole

“Pastore di Nuvole” – Clouds’ Shepherd – Luigi Grechi’s most recent work, is not only another milestone along his artistic journey, but also a further evidence of his many-sided and cross-cultural talent, that his fans have loved and followed for many years now, with the same consideration which is usually devoted to cult objects. “Pastore di Nuvole” is mainly the sound-fresco of the world of today and of the author’s world: he made this album being certain and aware that it’s possible to start from country music and move about many styles, and yet hold the reins without degenerating into mannerist and tasteless quotations. We are therefore in the presence of an album we could define as rock, if by this term we mean that concreteness of sounds and words which is becoming a rarity in the musical production of our time.
This is the reason why “Pastore di Nuvole” is a major novelty in the music’s landscape of today, and is thus arousing a greater interest than ever before, both from the audience and critics. The sound’s straightforwardness (due to a thoroughly live recording) is what catches the listener’s attention at first; soon after, though, the voice and the simplicity and depth of the stories lead us along the various tracks – not only soundtracks – of an unpredictable journey. The album ranges from the self-irony of “Eccolo lo stronzo”, in which the author squares accounts with his country roots, to the metaphysical poetry of “Pastore di Nuvole”, which ends with an extraordinary piano riff. This record is packed with good ideas: a tribal feel in “Didgeridoo” (“I wanted to speak – Luigi says – about a love story in prehistoric time”); pieces of everyday life in “Le vespe”; a bitter protest against all racism of the past and the present in “Venti gradi sottozero”; a caustic and uneasy look at the afterlife in “Al di là del confine”. Paolo Giovenchi plays electric and acoustic guitar, Dayana Sciapichetti plays the accordion, Alessandro Valle is on dobro and pedal steel guitar, Elio Rivagli on drums. On bass, Guido Guglielminetti, who is also the producer. All together, they build a bright sound that reminds us of pubs and improvisations, of real – or maybe only dreamed – stories. Because, as Luigi Grechi says it, “A man is what he eats, but also the dreams he carries in his own heart”.

Pozzo n.9-Così mi disse il cantastorie-Al primo canto del gallo-Quaranta ruggenti-Senza domani-Alla radio solo blues-L'angelo di Lyon-Il bandito e il campione-Vola via!-Da casello a casello-Fin dove la strada va-Chitarrista cieco-Tattoo shop-Cosivalavita
Produced by Guido Guglielminetti
This is the live version of “Il bandito e il campione”, whose intention is not to flesh out a rich and well-finished CD, but rather to make Grechi’s ballads even sappier with the help of a fine rhythmic couple: Guglielminetti-Rivagli. Featuring Ambrogio Sparagna as special guest on diatonic accordion.

La coperta indiana-Le chiavi- Il mio cappotto-Tutta la verità su Manuela-Il bandito e il campione-Dublino-Azzardo- Barry-L'isola di Toni-Diretto per il cielo
Produced by Vincenzo Mancuso
De Gregori’s version of "Il bandito e il campione" has sold over 500,000 copies and it has been given the Tenco Award for the best song of the year. It’s thus time to record an official version of this song, together with some titles already issued in “Azzardo” and other tracks brought back from unavailable old vinyl LPs. Thanks to Vincenzo Mancuso and Lucio Bardi, taking turns on guitar, this is Luigi’s most guitar-based work.
AZZARDO
Self-produced cassette (GREC 1)- 1990
Azzardo-Il bandito e il campione-Deportees-Il mio cappotto-L' isola di Toni-Tutta la verità su Manuela-Vola via!-Paura o libertà-Treasures Untold-Rock della crostata
Produced by Ricky Mantoan
Despite the limits of home-made recording, this album most faithfully represents Grechi’s live playing, also thanks to all-round guitarist Ricky Mantoan, who had become Luigi’s best fellow traveler in music. This tape was turned down by many record companies, even if it included the first version of “Il bandito e il campione”, as this song was thought to be too intellectual and hardly appealing for the audience.

CBS (450909 1)-1987
Dromomania-Dublino-Supergatto-Motels-40° Ruggenti-El Paso-Diretto per il cielo-Barry
Produced by Francesco De Gregori and Filippo Bruni
This is a revival recording after a long silence. The atmosphere is once again country-rock; this is also the starting point of a long-lasting collaboration with a new rhythmic section – Guido Guglielminetti on bass and Elio Rivagli on drums– and with Ricky Mantoan on pedal steel and dobro.

Produced by Roy Tarrant
"Le chiavi" has had a long live and recorded life-story since this first issue. This album includes two new tracks written by De Gregori (“Rosso Corallo” and “La strada è fiorita”). Grechi takes on the translation into Italian from American folksingers, such as John Prine’sSouvenirs”. The band is the usual one, also featuring Carlo Russo on guitars and Roger Belloni.

Il mio cappotto-Accusato di libertà-Lo spessore dei ricordi-E' troppo tempo ormai- Questa è una storia antica come il sole-Mattmark-Buonanotte Nina-Quel buon vino-L'uomo del nord-Paese
Produced by Roy Tarrant
From this album on, “Il mio cappotto" has always been one of Grechi’s mainstays. “Buonanotte Nina” is the only early De Gregori’s song that Grechi often plays in live performances. The musicians range over folk and jazz: Gaetano Liguori on piano, Andrea Centazzo on percussions, Pietro Bianchi on violin and Franco Feruglio on bass.
